Jordan grew up in a small town in southern Oregon (exits 124-127 on I5) where there were plenty of opportunities to play. Childhood gymnastics, soccer, and softball, gave way to high school volleyball, basketball, and track (actually, there was very little track, mostly just field). After one year of collegiate track at WWU, she shifted her focus to academics.
7 years later, she finished her degree at University of Arizona and moved back to Bellingham to teach linguistics at Western with a 1⅔ year old and another on the way. Only after stumbling upon Jogo in the fall of 2009 did she realize how deeply she’d missed playing and working out hard with others. The community at Jogo was encouraging, supporting, inspiring; the experience life-changing.
Jordan will say she was born to be a teacher. Think Eric Liddell in Chariots of Fire: “I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run I feel His pleasure.” Except replace fast with..something, and run with teach. Coaching at Jogo is like an extension of teaching, in a confidence giving, health preserving, life changing domain. Seeing others’ lives changed through this community is supremely satisfying.
